Italian desserts are so simple, but they are so delicious. This Italian Rum Cake starts out by using a boxed cake mix. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of flavor and customization to this dessert. It’s perfect for a winter dessert thanks to the spicy flavor from the rum. Think about serving it as a Christmas dessert or after a meal with family on the weekend.
Ingredients
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease a bundt pan before beginning your preparation work.
Steps for Cake
Yellow Cake Mix: Combine the cake mix with the eggs, rum and vegetable oil. Mix the ingredients together.
Eggs: All 4 of the eggs will be added to the cake mix.
Vegetable Oil: Add the oil to the cake mix. You can substitute olive oil for a richer flavor. Olive oil cake is a very common Italian dish.
Dark Rum: Include 1/3 cup of rum in the cake mix.
Steps for Glaze
Butter: Melt your butter in a small saucepan.
Sugar: Combine the sugar and the water with the butter once the butter has melted.
Water: The water is combined with the butter and sugar.
Let the mixture boil for 5 minutes and continuously stir.
Serving Suggestions
To get more glaze into the cake, poke some holes into the cake using a fork. This cake is best served when it is still warm and the glaze is slightly gooey. You can also let it sit for a few hours so the flavors absorb completely.
