A chewy granola bar is a sweet and healthy treat that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. They are filling, making them a quick go-to item for work or school. When you make these granola bars for the first time, they are not going to last long. Feel free to double the recipe to make more. They hold up well in the refrigerator for a few days.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 baking pan, or line it with parchment paper.
Rolled oats: Measure the rolled oats into a large mixing bowl.
Brown sugar: Add the brown sugar to the rolled oats.
Wheat germ: The wheat germ should be added to the mixing bowl.
Cinnamon: Measure the ground cinnamon into the dry mixture.
Flour: Add the flour to the mixture. You can use all-purpose flour, or you can substitute your flour of choice.
Salt: Add the appropriate amount of salt into mixture.
Egg: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add one whole egg into the well.
Honey: Add the honey into the center of the mixture as well.
Oil: Add the oil into the well.
Vanilla: Vanilla should be added to the wet ingredients.
Optional add-in’s: You can add in some raisins, chocolate chips or any other ingredient of choice.
Mix all the ingredients together. Press the mixture firmly into your baking pan. Place in the oven for 30 minutes.
The granola bars should sit and cool for about 25 minutes after they are removed from the oven. This will give them enough time to solidify slightly, making them easier to cut into bars. Just don't let them cool too much, or they will become too hard to cut into.
