There is nothing tastier than diving into a multi-layer Mexican dip when you’re having friends or family over for a holiday or gathering. A layered Mexican dip is so hearty, you could even make a meal of it if you wanted to. This recipe combines delicious and fresh ingredients like lettuce, sour cream, green onion, and tomatoes. You can serve it with chips on the side, a little bit of hot sauce for people who like a little bit of heat and even some fresh lime wedges.

Guacamole is optional, but you can do 1/2 with and 1/2 without.

Step 1

Refried Beans: The refried beans should be stirred up a little bit to loosen them and make them a smoother consistency. Layer the beans into the bottom of a glass serving dish as the first layer of the dip.

Step 2

Cream Cheese: The cream cheese is going to be mixed into the salsa. Try to stir the salsa in gently so you don’t break up the pieces too much.

Step 3

Salsa: The salsa is mixed into the cream cheese mixture and layered into the dish on top of the beans.

Step 4

Tomato: Dice the tomato very small and sprinkle onto the top of the salsa / cream cheese mixture.

Step 5

Guacamole (optional): For rich and zingy added flavor add a layer of guacamole before adding the shredded cheese layer.

Step 6

Shredded Cheese: Top the dip with shredded cheese. You can purchase a bag of already shredded cheese, or you can shred your own using a box grater and a brick of sharp cheddar.

Step 7

Lettuce: The iceberg lettuce should be generously placed on the very top of the dip.

Step 8

Green Onions: Finely dice the green onions and place them on top of the lettuce and the rest of the dip.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with a variety of corn chips. You can choose from white, yellow, or blue corn. Warm the chips in the microwave for a few minutes if you would like to really take your taste buds to the next level once you start scooping in. You can also add other ingredients to the different layers of the dip such as jalapenos, green chiles or black olives.
